BIM Content Creation | static: Simply Automated!

The Stuttgart-based software company BIMsystems launches a new BIM solution. After waya by BIMsystems was already launched last year, BIM-Content Creation | static now follows. With the help of BIM-Content Creation | static, component manufacturers can sustainably digitize product data themselves by creating intelligent BIM content from product data.

Static BIM content

Static BIM content describes products that exist in clearly defined and geometric dimensions (heights, widths, depths, etc.). What is not defined are variable variants such as colors, materials or other specific product properties.

Special components are also a form of static BIM content. These components cannot be changed geometrically by the users of the BIM content because they have been designed for very specific requirements.

The idea behind BIM content creation | static

Frequently, the geometry data is available in the form of production data, which, however, depicts too many geomeric details such as the inner workings of the products or similar, which have no relevance from the point of view of BIM or should not be published.

This unused and non-geometry-reduced data leads to a lack of performance of the generated BIM content due to an excessive level of detail, as the memory capacity is insufficient.

As a result, the geometric data is usually reduced manually in an extremely (time-) consuming process. The result: high internal and external costs for the conversion of the respective geometric BIM content into its various geometric details.

BIMsystems gets the aforementioned hurdles out of the way with BIM Content Creation | static. With the help of the new BIM solution, component manufacturers only need three groups of information to create rigid BIM content - product information, geometry data and manufacturer information.

The creation of static BIM content in just three steps

For the creation of static BIM content, component manufacturers with BIM content Creation | static only need three steps.

The first step is to collect and record product information. Product information such as item name, attributes, etc. is already available to component manufacturers in various formats. Depending on the source of information, these can simply be uploaded into the BIMsystems tool. In addition, it is possible to enter the data manually into the tool via a template.

Also existing geometry data can be uploaded as STEP, STL, DWG or SAT files in BIM-Content Creation | static. After the data has been viewed by BIMsystems, the manufacturer receives a non-binding offer. Once this is accepted, specific manufacturer data can additionally be entered into the tool.

Thus, BIMsystems has all the data needed to create the static BIM content and further processing begins.

In the second step, the attributes are defined together with the manufacturer and a geometry reduction takes place. Since the collected data in full scope and detail are still too complex for further processing in the CAD systems.

The product information is prepared for the CAD formats chosen by the manufacturer and reduced in geometry for the CAD systems. The result is static BIM content.

The third step is the testing and release of the BIM content by the manufacturer. The BIM content is checked for quality using a testing tool from BIMsystems. For this purpose, the digitized products are used in numerous CAD scenarios and tested for their applicability. If the component manufacturer is satisfied with the result, he can release the BIM content. From this moment on, the BIM content is available to the planners in waya.

waya by BIMsystems

In waya, planners, component manufacturers, and construction participants from different trades work together in a central database-based data model. Planners can use waya to access BIM content from various manufacturers and apply it to current and upcoming projects. Thanks to waya exists a lossless networking in BIM planning, consulting directly in the CAD system, digitized project and product data and addressee-appropriate information throughout the planning process.

The advantages of BIM content creation | static

BIM content Creation | static offers component manufacturers many advantages. Thanks to BIMsystems' tool, component manufacturers have the opportunity to save time and therefore money through automated processes. In addition, the information can be easily captured without special know-how and within a few clicks.

Tedious testing becomes child's play thanks to the automated testing tool and the whole thing is reflected in impeccable quality. And in the end, not only the component manufacturers benefit from this quality, but also the planners who access the BIM content via waya.
